A storyteller who can also pull a story out of anyone.
Bubba Startz was not born this man though, he was carved into it through a life spent entirely on the road less travelled. From the summer spent living in a tent growing up in Deadwood, South Dakota to the several years travelling the country with only a guitar and a backpack.
Later, a different and darker path. Drug addiction forced him to live in the shadows and forget himself til a year in Mexico on the run then two years in prison changed the ocourse of his life forever.
Now the light has returned and the rest is our future.

Bubba Startz is available for podcast interviews, keynote speeches, and one on one coaching/consulting.

In June 2024, Danielle Startz was accepted into Cohort 2 of the highly competitive Teacher Apprenticeship Program through the State of South Dakota — a milestone that marked the beginning of an extraordinary year of hard work, growth, and achievement. The second cohort had over 250 applicants, with only 70 individuals accepted, underscoring the selectivity and prestige of the program.

Over the past year, Startz has successfully completed 44 college credits and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA, balancing her full-time college studies with a full-time role as a paraprofessional at the school. She is on track to receive her full double major degree in Elementary Education and Special Education, building on her existing academic foundation — a Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a minor in Psychology.

This summer, she was offered a position as an Elementary Special Education teacher at Tyndall Elementary School, a role she says is both a professional goal and a personal passion. Startz expressed, “It’s nice to be teaching in the same school that I went to growing up.” To take on this position, she applied for an Advanced Student Teaching Permit through the South Dakota Department of Education. On August 11, she received official approval — a final step that clears the way for her to begin teaching in her new role.

In addition to the professional and academic opportunities, Startz has also benefited from financial support designed to remove barriers for aspiring educators. Tuition assistance is provided through Department of Labor grants and a new scholarship from the Start Today SD apprenticeship program. She was awarded $2,800 in financial support through the National Apprentice Fund — a $2 million initiative by Jobs for the Future, supported by Google.org, aimed at addressing financial barriers faced by apprentices in registered programs. This prestigious grant was awarded to only 750 individuals nationwide.

“This is more than just a job for me,” Startz shared. “It’s the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children who need extra support and encouragement. Every late night studying, every challenge I’ve faced, has been worth it to get here.”

The Teacher Apprenticeship Program is designed to address teacher shortages while offering aspiring educators the chance to gain valuable hands-on experience in the classroom. For Startz, it has also been a launching pad to fulfill a newfound passion for working in special education.
