T.Ellis: What inspired you to become a journalist?

Jerk Jerkins: When I was to up, I used to watch Rap City in inspired Basement with Big Tigger and ESPN with Stuart Scott. That helped me realize journalism was something I wanted to pursue.

T.Ellis: What does a journalist's job involve?

Jerk Jerkins: A journalist's job is to tell a story and capture what really happened.

T.Ellis: Did you go to school to become a journalist?

Jerk Jerkins: I'm in school right now and am about to graduate with my Associate of Arts degree in journalism. After that, I plan to transfer to Florida A&M University (FAMU) to earn my bachelor's degree.

T.Ellis: How long have you been a journalist?

Jerk Jerkins: I've been a journalist since 2017.

T.Ellis: How did you get into radio?

Jerk Jerkins: I got started through DJ Terrah at 90.1 FM. I began by producing shows and eventually moved on to other opportunities. Shout-out to DJ Terrah. May he rest in peace.

T.Ellis: What inspired you to get into radio?

Jerk Jerkins: I never really imagined myself working in radio. DJ Terrah introduced me to that world.

T.Ellis: At what point did you become a radio host?

Jerk Jerkins: I was programming music every day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. That's how the Jerk Jerkins Show started. I was able to interview the people I wanted to interview, discuss the topics I cared about, and have control over the programming.

T.Ellis: Is there a difference between being a radio host and being a journalist?

Jerk Jerkins: Yes. A radio host presents a radio program, while a journalist focuses on telling stories and reporting facts. Someone in your own neighborhood can be the journalist who knows the story first and has the facts.

Jerk Jerkins: I'd say being a journalist.

T.Ellis: As a radio host, do you play the music you want, or do you play what the program director chooses?

Jerk Jerkins: I own Florida Hip Hop Radio, so I play what I want.

T.Ellis: Where do you see yourself in five years?

Jerk Jerkins: I'm on an educational journey. I want to acquire the skills I need to achieve the things I want in life.

T.Ellis: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

Jerk Jerkins: I want to build an institution right here that gives the community a voice and represents it the right way, like Petey Greene.
